Reconversion of Louizalaan 32-46a, Brussels

Contemporary, prestigious offices find a place in a historically valuable property

The existing premises on the Louizalaan/Avenue Louise in Brussels accommodate businesses on the ground floor and first floor with storage areas in the basement. On the upper floors, the original layouts were partly kept and restored and offices were accommodated there with all modern comforts.

 

In consultation with the client and the monument and urban planning departments, the original ‘façadism' vision was abandoned in favour of an over-all masterplan. The valuable façades were restored and the original concrete structure was kept and reinforced.

 

The original central staircase was fully restored and complemented with a new transparent elevator shaft. The authenticity of the building's spatial organisation was maintained but within the existing columnar structure, a more flexible division was strived for. The fifth and uppermost floor was fully reconstructed according to the requirements of a contemporary landscape office with a unique panorama of the city.
