This listed building in the heart of the Onze-Lieve-Vrouw-ter-Sneeuw/Notre-Dame-aux-Neiges quarter in Brussels was built in 1878 as the residence for the Knight de Knuyt de Vosmaer. Fairly soon thereafter, it was purchased by Baron Empain. Following various adjustments and extensions, Baron Empain put in place his 'Banque industrielle de Belgique'. In the 1970s, the building belonged to the Régie des Bâtiments and the various large salons were divided into smaller office units using noise insulation walls and suspended ceilings. The recent removal of these prefabricated elements laid bare the original wealth of decorations in the salons.

The entire building has since been protected. It will be restored and set up as offices with a number of apartments in the adjoining buildings.

This building is a strong presence on the Brussels street scene and the restoration of it will be of great interest for further development of the Onze-Lieve-Vrouw-ter-Sneeuw/Notre-Dame-aux-Neiges quarter.
